Since iron ore is often magnetic, magnetic separators play a crucial role in concentrating the ore. Low-intensity magnetic separators (LIMS) remove magnetite, while high-intensity magnetic separators (HIMS) recover hematite and other weakly magnetic minerals.

For non-magnetic ores or ores with complex mineralogy, flotation cells are used. Chemicals are added to create bubbles that attach to iron particles, separating them from waste material (gangue). This method enhances iron recovery rates.

6. Dewatering Equipment
After concentration, excess water must be removed from the processed ore. Thickeners, filter presses, and centrifuges reduce moisture content, producing a dense slurry or dry product suitable for transportation or further refining.
7. Pelletizing and Sintering Equipment
To improve blast furnace efficiency, processed iron ore is often agglomerated into pellets or sintered lumps. Pelletizing drums and sintering machines heat fine ore with binders to form durable lumps optimized for smelting.
